Experience in administration, governance and postal management

  • Worked as Secretary to Govt. of India, Department of Posts from 1.11.2011 to 31.1.2013 and as ex-officio Director General Posts and Chairperson of the Postal Services Board, during this period
  • In this capacity, the officer was responsible for administering a department of nearly half a million employees and a network of 1.55 lakh post offices<
  • As Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Steering Committee, the officer led the implementation of the India Post Technology project to streamline work at post offices and increase employees' efficiency
  • The Department of Posts receives approximately 50,000 RTI applications a year. These were effectively monitored and the public grievance settlement mechanism was strengthened. Implemented the Central Assistant Public Information Officer module in 4,700 post offices to increase accountability in the access to information
  • The Department received the National E-Governance Award for 2012-13 for outstanding performance in citizen-centric service delivery

Representing the Department of Posts at international fora

  • The officer led the Indian delegation to the Universal Postal Union in Berne, Switzerland in November 2012 to participate in multilateral discussions on Postal issues including Financial Services, e-Commerce and the development of ICTs, as well as on bilateral cooperation between India Post and Swiss Post
  • Impetus was given to bilateral cooperation. Discussions were held with representatives of Pakistan Post on trade facilitation through postal channels, opening of new routes to exchange mails & parcels, postal reforms and Philately. Also led the India delegation during meetings of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU), a restricted Union of the UPU, at Ethiopia in 2012
  • The India – Israel Joint Commemorative Stamp on completion of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries was released. Bilateral dialogue was held on promotion of e-Commerce, Financial Services and cooperation with Israel Post
  • In September-October 2012, the officer led the delegation from India to the 25th Universal Postal Union Congress, the supreme body of the Union, at Doha, Qatar
